How To Replace Shower Valve Cartridge?

Replacing a shower valve cartridge is a common maintenance task that can restore proper functioning to your shower. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to successfully replace a shower valve cartridge:

  1. Gather The Necessary Tools And Materials:
    • Replacement shower valve cartridge
    • Adjustable wrench or pliers
    • Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on your specific shower valve)
    • Plumbing grease or lubricant
    • Towels or rags to catch any water or debris
  2. Turn Off The Water Supply:
    • Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home and turn it off to stop the water supply to the shower.
    • Open the shower faucet to drain any remaining water in the pipes.
  3. Remove The Handle:
    • Depending on the type of shower handle you have, you may need to remove a decorative cap or cover to access the handle screw.
    • Use a screwdriver to remove the screw holding the handle in place.
    • Gently pull the handle away from the wall to detach it from the valve.
  4. Remove The Trim Plate Or Escutcheon:
