How A Hydraulic System Works?

Getting water out of a tractor’s hydraulic system is crucial to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to remove water from a tractor hydraulic system:

  1. Identify Drain Points:
    • Familiarize yourself with your tractor’s hydraulic system and locate the drain points. These are typically drain plugs or valves positioned at the lowest points of the system.
  2. Prepare the System:
    • Ensure that the tractor is turned off and the hydraulic system is depressurized. This is important for safety reasons.
  3. Position a Drain Container:
    • Place a suitable drain container or bucket underneath the drain point to collect the drained hydraulic fluid.
  4. Loosen the Drain Plug or Valve:
    • Using the appropriate wrench or tool, carefully loosen the drain plug or open the valve at the designated drain point. Loosen it enough to allow the water-contaminated hydraulic fluid to flow out.
  5. Drain the Hydraulic Fluid:
    • Slowly and gradually open the drain plug or valve to allow the water-contaminated hydraulic fluid to drain. The fluid may appear milky or have visible water droplets.
  6. Flush with Fresh Hydraulic Fluid:
    • Once most of the water-contaminated fluid has drained, close the drain plug or valve.
    • Fill the hydraulic reservoir with fresh, clean hydraulic fluid to flush out any remaining water and contaminants from the system.
  7. Operate the Hydraulic System:
    • Start the tractor and activate the hydraulic system. Engage the hydraulic functions, such as raising and lowering attachments or operating the hydraulic controls, to circulate the fresh hydraulic fluid throughout the system.
  8. Repeat the Flushing Process:
    • Open the drain plug or valve again to allow the fresh hydraulic fluid to flush out any remaining water and contaminants.
    • Close the drain plug or valve once the fluid appears clean and water-free.
  9. Check Fluid Level:
    • Verify the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir and top it up if necessary to maintain the recommended level.
  10. Regular Maintenance:
    • Monitor the hydraulic fluid regularly for signs of water contamination or other impurities. Perform routine fluid analysis to ensure the hydraulic system remains free of water and contaminants.
