How Do Hydraulic Cylinders Work?

Hydraulic cylinders are mechanical devices that generate linear force and motion using the power of hydraulic fluid.   1. Basic Components:

    • Piston Rod: The rod attached to the piston, extending from one end of the cylinder.

  2. Working Principle:
    • When hydraulic fluid is supplied under pressure to one of the chambers (referred to as the “cap” end), it exerts force on the piston, causing it to move.
    • As the piston moves, it pushes the hydraulic fluid from the opposite chamber (referred to as the “rod” end) back into the hydraulic reservoir or another part of the hydraulic system.
    • The fluid displacement from one chamber to the other creates a pressure difference, resulting in the generation of linear force and motion.
  3. Single-Acting vs. Double-Acting Cylinders:
